The hotel's most famous ghost is said to be that of Freelan Oscar Stanley himself. Visitors and employees have reported seeing him walking around the hotel and even sitting in the hotel's music room.
There are also reports of ghostly encounters with the wife of F.O Stanley.
Another famous ghost that reportedly haunts the Stanley Hotel is a maid by the name of Elizabeth Wilson. She was killed in an accident on the property when an elevator door closed on her, and it's said that her ghost still works at the hotel to this day. Other ghostly figures have been reported throughout the hotel, including a ghostly couple said to be spotted dancing in the ballroom and a ghost of a child in room 217, which inspired Stephen King to write his famous horror novel, "The Shining," after staying in this room in 1974.
It's worth noting, while this hotel is known to be haunted, it's also a famous tourist spot and known for it's architecture, history and location. Some of the ghostly stories may be just rumors, but if you're interested in taking a ghost tour or experiencing something spooky, it's definitely worth checking out.
